If Samba was a religion in Brasil the samba schools would be the temples in which thousands of worshipers gather regularly for a celebration of music, dance and life. Rio has 13 main Samba schools competing every year for the carnival since the 20s.

The Salgueiro School of samba was born on March 5th, 1953. This particular samba school was a joining of two schools that has since become very popular Carnival entertainers known for their lavish costumes and extravagant dances. One of the things that make the Salgueiro so different is their samba style dance stories. Some of the more popular and interesting dances the samba dancers have performed include such names as Slave ship, Colorful historical trip to Brazil, and Epic of the Samba.
